X-Plane for iPhone

There are a series of X-plane simulators for the iPhone – as you can see below, so this review is just based on the ‘core’, X-Plane 9.

X-Plane 9 was the first of the X-plane series to be launched in iPhone and it’s the only one you really need unless you’re extremely specific in your interest. It offers 9 aircraft and 6 scenic areas to fly in.

Controlling the aircraft is simple, pitch and roll are controlled by tilting the phone (the rudder is automatic), the throttle and flaps are slider bars on the side, and the gear and brakes are buttons.

The default view is a ‘HUD’ style view from inside the plane, but there are eternal views available.

It’s quite easy to get used to X-plane, and it’s fairly fun for flying around. You can change the weather and time of day to make it more challenging to land and take off, though on top of that there is not much more to challenge you – perhaps that’s where you’d get stuck in to on of the other games in the franchise!
